A History of The Wilderness Center
Welcome to The Wilderness Center. We are a non-profit nature center in Northeast Ohio. We have 10 miles of hiking trails through old growth forest and prairies, passing a lake, pond, and look-out tower. Stop in at the Interpretive Building with a wonderful Nature Store, interactive Display Room, and Wildlife Observation Room. We also have an Astronomy Education Building with a Planetarium and Observatory. We are protecting 3,258 acres of forest, streams, prairie and farmlands. The Wilderness Center has been serving the community as the “go to” nature center for education and land conservation since 1964.
The Wilderness Center (TWC) is a self-funding, nonprofit organization, founded in 1964, dedicated to nature education, wildlife conservation, natural
history research and community service. TWC is NOT a government agency and is NOT funded by taxes.
TWC educational programs reach about 12,000 schoolchildren each year. TWC protects land throughout
its service area.
When you join, TWC will mail the Members' Newsletter to you each month. You will also enjoy a 10% discount in the Bookstore/Gift Shop. Birdseed is discounted 15% to members. Members also receive special members prices on Wilderness Center courses, workshops, events and activities.
Also as a member, you may visit any of the listed ANCA (Association of Nature Center Administrators) institutions and receive benefits such as free admission
and discounts in the stores. In order to receive these benefits you must bring your membership card to The Wilderness Center.
The most important benefit of membership is your support for conservation and education in our area.
