FAIR ARTS EXHIBIT GETS NEW LOOK
DOVER – Tuscarawas County Fair officials are aiming to create a fresh feel inside the Fine Arts barn this week. Senior Fair Board member Jacque Peters says the barn is a chance for people who are not in 4-H to submit entries in photography, scrap booking, quilting, and even baking categories. The exhibit, just down from the Clover Café, has been rearranged to appear more like an art gallery this year.

PRIME TIME FOR FLU SHOTS
NEW PHILADELPHIA – Health department officials are letting us know it is not too early to start thinking about getting a flu shot. Nursing Director Nicole Bache says the vaccine has been available for a few weeks already. It is better to act now instead of waiting for flu season to pick up in October and November, because the shots take a couple weeks to take effect. Bache says you can get the shot now and it will still offer protection at the end of flu season. She says any flu cases around Ohio have been very sporadic so far.

WOMAN WHO FAKED SON'S CANCER MAY FACE JAIL
CINCINNATI (AP) – A judge in Cincinnati needs more information before sentencing a woman who was accused of falsely claiming her young son had terminal cancer, having his head shaved, fraudulently fundraising for him, and pretending to be a doctor. Monika Burgett was convicted of child endangering and telecommunications fraud. The judge wants to know more about what counseling she needs.

FATHER SHOOTS 2-YEAR-OLD GIRL WHILE UNLOADING GUN
AKRON (AP) – Police say a man is in jail after he shot his 2-year-old daughter in the head while trying to unload his handgun Saturday at their Akron home. The 27-year-old is charged with felony child endangering. His daughter remains hospitalized in critical condition. Investigators say the man mistakenly fired the gun, believing it was empty, and a bullet traveled into a bathroom, where it hit the girl.

MARIA POUNDS SMALL CARIBBEAN ISLAND
ROSEAU, Dominica (AP) – Hurricane Maria has smashed into Dominica with 160mph winds, ripping the roof off even the prime minister's residence and causing what he called "mind-boggling" devastation.

"AMERICA FIRST" PRESIDENT GOES TO THE UN
NEW YORK (AP) – Elected on the slogan of "America First," President Donald Trump is making his debut address to the U.N. General Assembly today. He is to argue that nations should act in their own self-interest yet rally together against common threats such as North Korea. He plans to address other crisis points, too, such as Iran's nuclear agenda, the instability in Venezuela, and the fight against terrorism.
